This month I'm tuning my hybrid bicycle to get some early spring riding in Iowa underway. While ordering new handlebars, cleaning my chain and tuning the gears, I've been thinking about how important the bicycle is to a successful life in Rwanda. I'm hoping we include the bicycle in our studies.

I definately think we should look at bikes! Seeing critiques of some past bike donation projects brings up the issue of sustainability for me. what happens if there are no resources to maintain the bikes? i'd love to explore this as well in comparing service projects as "band-aids" vs. solutions...
